Grooming for a girl on the Road

August 16, 2010

I haven’t taken a “proper” shower in a week, which if you’re a hardcore over-lander, one week isn’t a big deal.  It got real sweaty in South Dakota but I have taken several swims in really clean lakes since then so…My hair is actually very shiny and manageable and my skin is soft and breakout-free; I think I’m looking pretty good! It makes me think about how much maintenance I went through back home;  makeup, shaving, daily showers, hair-washing every other day, face lotion, body lotion, body butter, body scrubs, loofahs, oils, hair moisturizing packs, the list could go on.  Back home I wouldn’t leave my apartment without putting makeup on, and I’m not one of those girls who goes the whole mile- just some eyeliner, shadow, mascara, blush, lip gloss, but I just didn’t feel ready to face the world without my “face”.  So when I packed for this trip I also packed my grooming essentials:  the makeup mentioned before, one bottle of clear nail polish, one red nail polish, tweezers, face and body lotion, a comb, and my contact lens paraphernalia.  I think that’s pretty stripped down to the bare necessities, don’t you?  For me, I love the outdoors and going into the wild and all that, but I like to look cute too.  Well, I’ll tell you, on this trip so far I’ve gone makeup-less pretty much everyday, except for a few when I feel like gussying up so I’ll put some eyeliner on.  That’s it.  Oh, and I tweeze those stray eyebrow hairs- that’s a must. I wash my face at night and in the morning then I put on some of my face and body lotion by Nature’s Gate (it’s awesome).  I also have to admit  that with all the things to see and do I’ve let my shaving rituals go by the wayside too.  It really doesn’t matter though since I’m not that hairy, but I see now that all the shaving I did before really didn’t matter either.   A clean, fresh face and hands, a comb through my hair, some moisturizer, and fresh air are my beauty essentials now.

I never thought it could be so.

it’s true, she doesn’t grow hair in unwanted places as if by will or genetics. she is chinese you know!

  2. Pipe Adams Says:

This title is somewhat misleading because it implies, especially with the included swing photo, that one is to hear more about how a girl on the road keeps ‘fresh’. Or maybe it is isn’t. But regardless that is something that I would like to hear about. Canellini balls for alls.

you are right Pipe, it is misleading. To make up for that I will remind you of the wonders of baby wipes and the art of patting after urination, not wiping, as wiping can cause toilet tissue to tear and remain within the folds of the woman part unbeknownst to the “host” which could then start to collect unwanted bacteria whereby causing the “not so fresh feeling” and scent that the product Masengil is marketed for. Canelli balls to you! Thank you for your interest.

Hahaaahhaahaha. I remember I had a crush on her.
